Welcome to the month of love and feeling good; February. One of my intentions for 2020 is to take charge of my health. Personally, I make way too many excuses when it comes to eating healthy then suffer the consequences later. During the last week of January, I laid off consuming meat then decided to continue for February. I want to be able to not rely on meat as a source of protein. Most time when I cut back, I feel deprived with a need to have it. Realizing that this is all in my mind was the first habit I had to break. Once this month is through, I’ll follow a pescatarian lifestyle and gradually ween myself of all meat and meat products. Some days I feel good, others I just want to eat a fried chicken or a burger. Understanding how my body reacts, the types of food I should be eating and my level of commitment to exercise are some of the main things I am focused on. Setting intentions daily or weekly also helps me throughout. My water consumption is way higher because I took the time to research and understand its meaning, why I should be drinking it and how I should take care of it. If seventy percent of our bodies is made up of water, I had to figure out why I was always hesitant about drinking water when it has such a vital role within in my body. The types of food I eat daily contributes to my emotions and actions. I want to eat what makes me feel good not the opposite. I don’t have to constantly be eating for energy. Knowing what to eat, when to eat and how to eat are very important attributes to ensuring that I get all the nutrients my body needs for the day. By eating in such large portions, you are overworking your digestive system and organs that assist. Knowledge is key.
Smoothies have become a huge part of my life. For the past two years I’ve been concocting all sorts in my kitchen, using different fruits and vegetables. Today I’m sharing with you a very simple smoothie recipe called ‘very berry’. Its one of my feel-good smoothies filled with antioxidants and vitamins which helps with my mood and bowel movement. As the title of the post states, your ‘health is wealth’ so why not value it. Also, if you consume eat and you are reading this post please don’t feel offended. I am on this journey figuring out things like everyone else so start when you feel is appropriate. I am doing what is best for me and so should you.
Last Saturday my aunt brought me food and added chicken to the plate. She couldn’t believe I wasn’t going to eat the chicken and asked if it’s going to be this way forever. Very Berry Recipe (what I use)
1 cup of frozen mixed berries
3 whole strawberries
2 tbsp sea moss
1 tsp flaxseed
1 tsp ginger
½ cup soursop (optional)
Add desired amount of water to the cup, blend and enjoy.
